We all know that Birmingham is famous for its breweries, but did you know that we have several spirit distilleries in The Magic City as well? Check out Redmont Distilling Company—and find out where you can pick up a bottle in Birmingham.
Redmont Distilling Company
As you can tell by the name, Redmont Distilling Company is intertwined with the history of Birmingham. Founders Stephen Watts and Jake Hendon drew inspiration from Birmingham’s Red Mountain, honoring Birmingham’s history and culture.
Redmont Vodka is corn-based, making it gluten free 🙌. Since it’s distilled 8 times through advanced carbon filtration systems, Redmont Vodka has a super smooth finish without a harsh aftertaste.
Although Redmont was recognized as “Alabama Distillery of the Year” in 2017, it began to disappear off the shelves. For a while, it seemed like this Birmingham distillery would go under.
Reemergence
Then, in 2019, Redmont Distilling relaunched with new owners—including basketball legend and Birmingham native Charles Barkley. In addition to reigniting their internet presence, they helped sponsor Birmingham Freedom Fest, serving up delicious cocktails.
In Fall 2019, Redmont opened a new distillery in East Avondale, next to Cahaba Brewing Company.
Local artist Shawn Fitzwater, famous for restoring some of Birmingham’s “ghost signs,” recently painted a couple of logos for Redmont at their distillery.
