What better way to ring in the New Year than with a table full of your favorite brunch bites? Whether you’re looking for that hangover cure or some good eats to kick off 2021, here are some spots around Birmingham to get your brunch on.
Here at Bham Now, we love supporting local.
If you’re looking to shop local this holiday season, but don’t know where to start, check out our local business directory with over 660 businesses.
1. The Essential
The Essential is hosting their annual brunch-a-thon which has every foodie’s name written all over it. It’s brunch every day starting December 30 through January 3 from 9AM-2PM and their bar is open all day.
You can eat or sip your way into the New Year on their heated patio, distanced dining room or order for pickup.
2. Ruby Sunshine
Ruby Sunshine’s brunch hits it right on the head every time. This restaurant was born in New Orleans and their Big Easy influence shows on the menu from beignets, eggs benedict and everything in between.
Swing by between 7:30AM-2pm to ring in 2021 with a table full of your brunch menu favorites. May I suggest the Stuffed French Toast?
3. The Yard
Located in the oh-so-elegant Elyton Hotel, The Yard brings local, Southern-inspired fine dining to the heart of downtown. If your jaw dropped when you saw their Spicy Chicken & Red Velvet Waffle dish like mine did, this is the ideal place to ring in 2021.
From 9AM-1PM, The Yard will be serving up their New Year’s brunch so you can get things started with a delicious meal (or two!).
4. Hero Doughnuts & Buns
If you love doughnuts as much as we do at Bham Now, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Hero Doughnuts. Their aesthetically pleasing desserts are just as good as they look, but have you tried their breakfast menu?
I’ve tried everything on their breakfast menu and it’s all delicious. If you’re looking for a laid back way to kick off the New Year, head over to Hero Doughnuts at Railroad Park to enjoy some good eats on their patio or socially distanced dining room. (P.S. They have their full menu all day long just in case your hangover delays things a bit.)

5. Flying Biscuit Cafe
2020 seemed to last longer than expected, but a plate at the Flying Biscuit sure won’t. They’re serving up their Southern-inspired menu on New Year’s Day from 7AM-2PM.
Since they’re known for serving breakfast all day, brunch can be whatever time you want to make it.
6. Maple Street Biscuit Company
One of Homewood’s newest additions, Maple Street Biscuit Company, will be open New Year’s Day and serving up biscuits however you like ’em. If you’re a fellow fan of breakfast, this restaurant serving comfort food with a modern twist needs to be on your 2021 bucket list.
Maple Street will be open January 1 from 8AM-2PM so go ahead and mark your calendar.
7. Another Broken Egg
Y’all know that we couldn’t forget Another Broken Egg. Between their brunch and hand-crafted cocktails, they’ll always make it onto a brunch ideas list.
Their Mountain Brook location will be open from 7AM-2PM on New Year’s Day.
8. Metro Diner
Start the year off with a bang. Grab your brunch squad and head to Metro Diner where they have something for everyone on the menu.
They’re open for their regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
