Happy Hispanic Heritage month! Today, we’re highlighting some of the best Hispanic restaurants around Birmingham for you to try out not just this month, but all year long.
1. Sabor Latino

When you look for Hispanic restaurants you typically find Mexican, Puerto Rican and Cuban but have you ever tried Peruvian? Sabor Latino serves up a taste of Peru with dishes such as bistek encebollado (smothered steak), aji de gallina (shredded chicken and sauce) and sopa de mariscos (Peruvian style seafood soup).

2. Little Donkey

This Mexican restaurant with a Southern soul has BIG flavor and has left it print on Homewood. Come thirsty and leave quenched. Little Donkey’s variety of cocktails and cervezas will leave everyone happier than they arrived. Try the El Bushwackador with Coco Lopez, heavy cream, cinnamon, crème de cacao and Cruzan 151.

3. El Zun Zun

El Zun Zun brings the spirit of the Caribbean to Birmingham with its authentic Latin cuisine and fresh-squeezed margaritas. According to El Zun Zun’s website, in the Caribbean, hummingbirds are often referred to as El Zun Zun. The migration of the Alabama native ruby-throated hummingbird to Mexico each year inspired this restaurant’s menu with cuisines from locations along its migratory path. For you non-meat eaters, try their veggie plate with house-made tortillas.

4. El Taco Loco

Everyone knows “hole in the wall” restaurants are the best and El Taco Loco is one of Birmingham’s greatest. This spot has tortas, milanesa (think South American chicken fried steak), fajitas and of course your classics such as tacos and quesadillas.

5. Iguana Grill

For food, atmosphere and a few Instagram selfies (because what’s a night out without pictures), check out Iguana Grill. Their colorful décor and perfectly presented meals make for the perfect evening. For dessert, try their Mexican flan with whipped cream, a cherry and topped with cinnamon. You’ll never want to leave.

6. Leon la Tabera

Leon la Tabera has the perfect mix of American and Mexican foods. Here, you can order authentic Mexican dishes such as tinga tostada or a hamburger making it perfect even picky eaters.
